Silverton ST27-ST29 are diesel locomotives owned by South Australian Railways.
All built for Narrow gauge on Silvertons Broken Hill to Cockburn line. With the opening of the Standard Gauge the Silverton operations were relegated to shunting in Broken Hill and thus sold ST27 to the South Australian Railways as a 830 class. ST28 and ST29 were converted to Standard gauge. These two locomotives worked the shunting operations in Broken Hill for the local mines as the only locomotives until the purchase of ex-government locomotives in the form 442 and 48/830 class locomotives.

Silverton purchased ex-Australian National 830 and New South Wales 48 class to increase the fleet and used for banking National Rail trains in the late 1990s.
With the change of name to Silverton Rail and Open Access, the class was renumbered mostly on paper into the 48s series number.

All were delivered in the Silverton Red and White which was replaced in the 1980s with the Silverton Yellow scheme. The two original ST class did not gain the Silverton Blue/Yellow; the latest scheme for the class was the Coote Industrial green.
Like the 48/830 classes, the ST class was also produced in HO Scale by Powerline Models in both the Silverton Red/White and the Silverton Blue/Yellow.
